Mr Konstantinos Bouras is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in medical retina conditions at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Moorfields Private Hospital. He is a member of the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) and a recipient of the NHS Leadership Academy Award.
I have a specialist expertise in managing retinal vascular conditions such as:
When patients first arrive for their appointment, they are seen by our nurses for a vision assessment and eye pressure check. Our nurses administer drops to dilate their pupils. Pupil dilatation is essential for the assessment of the retina. We also perform a scan of their macula for a detailed review. Finally, after all tests have been completed, I see patients for a thorough slit lamp examination, including fundoscopy and review of all available test results. Following that, we discuss the outcome in detail and decide on further management.
Patients come and see me for the entire array of medical retina conditions including diabetes, vein and arterial occlusions, macular degeneration, inflammatory conditions of the eye as well as inherited diseases. I have extensive experience in managing central serous chorio-retinopathy (CSCR). I perform all types of intravitreal injections and implants as well as YAG laser capsulotomy and operate all types of retinal lasers. I take an analytical and thorough approach, considering all the possible differentials, and always work in cooperation with my patients on treatments that suit them and their specific needs.
My research interests include diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular conditions, and genetic diseases. I have published papers on hypertensive retinopathy and genetic retinal disorders as well as carried out extensive research on treatments for central serous chorio-retinopathy (CSCR).
