Ilaria graduated from Medical School and was trained in Ophthalmology at University of Padova, Italy. She trained in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Diseases at Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. She completed two fellowships in Uvetis and Ocular Inflammation at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
She trained in Paediatric Uveitis at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, where she completed a fellowship in Paediatric Uveitis. She is currently a MPH degree candidate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (Master Degree in Public Health). Ilaria currently works as Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond St Hospital, managing uveitis and inflammatory eye diseases in adults and children. Ilaria is also the Lead of the Uveitis Virtual Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Ilaria is a member of various professional organisations, societies and study groups, including the General Medical Council (GMC), IOIS (International Ocular Inflammation Society), Paediatric Ocular Inflammation Group (POIG), UCL-TB (University College London Tuberculosis), Collaborative Ocular Tuberculosis Study Group (COTS), Comprehensive Ocular Imaging Network (COIN), Infectious Uveitis Treatment Algorithm Network (TITAN), COVID-19 Vaccination Ocular Inflammatory Events Study Group, SIUMIO (Società Italiana Uveiti e Malattie Infiammatorie Oculari). Ilaria is Associate Editor for Journal of Ocular Infections and Inflammation and Inflammatory Eye Diseases for Frontiers in Ophthalmology.
Ilaria has a strong interest in medical research, and has authored more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and more than 10 book chapters. Her primary area of research interest includes ocular inflammatory diseases (uveitis, scleritis), inflammatory eye diseases in adults and children, ocular infections, including ocular tuberculosis, herpes disease and ocular toxoplasmosis, and multimodal imaging in uveitis.
