Integrated Medical Retina and Cataract Care

A key strength of the service at St Ann’s is the close integration between Medical Retina care and cataract surgery. For patients who have both cataract and retinal disease, assessment and treatment can be coordinated to reduce unnecessary visits and delays. A Medical Retina consultant is always present on site during surgery, as well as experienced ophthalmic trained nurses.

  • Cataract surgery can be planned alongside ongoing Medical Retina treatment.
  • Intravitreal treatments and cataract care can be safely combined where appropriate.
  • Surgery waiting time usually within X weeks from booking
  • Ground-floor eye care unit with no stairs
  • Two operating theatres on site
  • Surgery performed under local anaesthetic
  • Sedation available if required, with an anaesthetist always on site
  • Streamlined discharge to minimise waiting times

All services are provided within a single, easily accessible building at St Ann’s Hospital with good transport connections.

Site information

Our eye care unit is on ground level with no stairs, making it easily accessible for our patients.

There are two operating theatres, and all surgeries are performed under local anesthetic. Sedation is available if required and an anesthetist is always on-site during surgery.
